A new Mexican restaurant opening in Old Lake Highlands marks a return to Tex-Mex from a well-versed vet. Called El Vecino, the restaurant comes from John McBride, great-grandson of Mike Martinez, who co-founded the El Fenix chain. It will open in the fall in the White Rock Center, formerly Lake Highlands Village, at the corner of Buckner Boulevard and Northcliff Drive. Lake Highlands Baptist Church is located right here in OLH and they've been a staple in our neighborhood for over 50 years. Maybe you've been to a neighborhood meeting here as they graciously open their doors for community events. Also, OLHNA Board now meets here once a month for our board meetings. If you're looking for a church home LHBC would love to have you join them. Check out the website to see all the great things going on over there.
A word from LHBC: We are a church of people from all walks of life who are united by a belief in and obedience to the Bible... and the God of the Bible. We are not a bunch of perfect people (boy do we have some stories), but people who are experiencing the life-change that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. And we don't want to keep this experience to ourselves - we welcome you.
LHBC was established in 1903 and has been in the White Rock Lake area of Dallas for over 50 years. There is stability in the church but LHBC is also in touch with our changing world, providing ministries and opportunities for people today. We have quality programs and activities for all ages. Our worship is a fresh blend of new songs and favorite hymns along with messages that apply to life in the 21st century. LHBC has a family feel... but it is the kind of family that is looking to expand.
OLH- We have a new Gold Business Sponsor. If you're looking for someone to repair your roofing or gutters then please look to Sandberg Contracting.

Come celebrate the nascient dawning of Spring with the ebulient, lively, and colorful works of Selena Dixon!
With a background in geology and a lifelong penchant for quilting, Selena has successfully melded a love for graphic, even blocky forms with amazing color choices that only a love for nature can imbue.
Hailing from upstate NY, she has lived most of her life in Texas. She parlayed an interest in minerals and science into a life-long career in the geosciences. She has since retired and resides now Dallas, working as diligently on caring for her family and grandchildren as she does on her artwork.
The latter has garnered a number of awards. Most recently she was chosen by a jury to join the ranks of ...the New Texas Talent show at Craighead Green Gallery, a tradition that has deep and wide roots in the Dallas art community particularly.
We met by chance recently when she attended a Makers Connect "Meetup" event (open to anyone interested in arts/crafts) and after a glimpse at her canvasses, knew that she was a perfect fit for our store.... even if paintings have not proven to be our particular forte over the past few years. However, we just really loved what she's doing and thankfully, she agreed to let us borrow some of her works for your enjoyment!
Come take a gander and say hi!
