Summer is in full swing and beating the heat is hard to do when you have a fur coat you can't take off! Emmy Lou, (pictured in the right in the photo), an OLH resident Pet, and gorgeous German shepherd, collapsed while on a walk with its owner. Emmy collapsed in front of my house and we got her body temp back to normal but it was not without effort and lots of help from other neighbors such as Barbara McCormick. Barbara, a former nurse and paramedic, quickly identified the course of action and we Executed it with perfection. Please remember to keep your dogs out of the heat and limit walks during the hottest part of the day. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke is a life threatening condition and should not be ignored. If your pet is heat sensitive, always bring water, ice, phone and an umbrella to protect your fur baby from the sun's rays. We have to look out for them... they can't help themselves. Stay cool!
