May 2020 YOTM: 141 Bon Aire

Congratulations to Gary Chenowith at 141 Bon Aire for May Yard of the Month!  He has a Master's Degree in Horticulture and works at Jackson's Home and Garden, so it's no surprise he has a beautiful garden at home.  Gary has lived here since 1999 and if you have driven on Bon Aire you have surely seen his spectacular garden.  And you might have noticed his house at Christmas too, he goes all out with thousands of lights and all kinds of decorations.  His garden is slowly becoming more plants and less grass; all the original landscaping was removed to begin his project that keeps evolving with each passing year.  He has a wonderful variety of plants including smoke tree, calylophus, bird of paradise, blackfoot daisy, gray santolina, agave, yucca, abelia, coneflower, scabiosa, peony, jewels of opar, canna, and many annuals too.  Of special note is his amazing bougainvillea: he has a large pot near the house and two pots on either side of an arbor which will be covered later this summer as the weather gets hot and the plants grow.  His secret to keeping them coming back every year?  Once the weather gets cold, he covers each plant, mulches it heavily and adds little Christmas lights that are on 24/7.  Stop by and say hi to Gary, he is out in his garden often.
