June 2025 Home of the Month
A Modern Oasis at 434 Brookhurst Drive
Tucked away on a generous corner lot, the home at 434 Brookhurst Drive is more than just a stunning renovation, it’s a story of transformation, personal style, and community spirit. This June, we’re proud to feature Brent Rodgers’ home as our Old Lake Highlands Home of the Month, a standout example of how thoughtful updates and a passion for connection can turn a house into something truly special.
This month’s feature focuses on the star of the renovation - the incredible backyard. From outdoor lounging to entertainment-ready design, the photos tell the story of how this once-simple yard became a true oasis.
A Runner’s Retreat
Brent moved into his 1951-built home in 2018, drawn to Old Lake Highlands for its welcoming atmosphere, its reputation for safety, and most importantly its proximity to White Rock Lake.
“I’m a marathoner, and I love doing my long runs around the lake,” he says. The house itself? A dream: a spacious, corner lot with endless potential.
A Vision from the Ground Up
Brent didn’t just renovate, he reimagined. It was taken down to the studs and rebuilt with comfort, style, and intentionality.
“My vision was to create a comfortable, chic living space,” he explains, inspired by his love of travel and nice hotels.
Over the course of two years, the renovation spanned everything from kitchen and fireplace updates to brand-new floors, countertops, cabinetry, and a completely transformed backyard. The result is a seamless blend of modern functionality and relaxed luxury.
Backyard Bliss
Ask Brent what he loves most now, and he won’t hesitate: “THE BACKYARD.”
The gorgeous covered patio, hammocks, loungers, picnic tables, bean bags, makes this backyard an outdoor haven designed for all aspects of life from fun and socializing to rest and rejuvenation.
The backyard is more than a space - it’s a lifestyle. The images capture the mix of structure and softness, from shaded lounge areas to wide-open sky and the refreshing pool complete with fountains that keep the water circulating and cooler in the hot summer months.
“I spend so much time outside now,” Brent says. “Reading, writing, listening to music, watching TV. It’s changed how I live.”
Home with a Story
Behind the beautiful renovation is a home with history, and a story that left a lasting impression. One afternoon, Brent noticed a car slowly circling his house. He approached the vehicle only to find an older woman who shared that her parents had built the house and she had grown up there.
“She told me she planted the peach tree in the yard as a little girl,” Brent says. “Now, it towers over the neighborhood.”
That evening, they sat on the back porch as she recalled summers surrounded by cotton fields, back when this house was one of the first in the neighborhood.
A Welcoming Space for the Neighborhood
Brent’s home doesn’t just reflect his personal tastes, it reflects his community-minded spirit, too. If you have been to a porch party at 434 Brookhurst in past years, you might have enjoyed a taco or mambo-taxi from the Mi Cocina truck. Brent has hosted these events to bring neighbors together while raising money for Dallas Animal Services - a cause close to his heart. It’s this mix of hospitality and heart that gives the home its personality.
In Brent’s words, if his house had a personality, it would be: “Happy.”
