435 Bondstone Drive

Some homes tell their story slowly, through years of love, small projects, and the memories built within their walls.

That’s exactly the case at 435 Bondstone, where longtime Old Lake Highlands neighbor Kathy Lyon has spent the past 35 years shaping her 1952 cottage into a home full of heart, history, and East Dallas charm.

Kathy moved to Old Lake Highlands in 1989 long before Google Maps could help her find the best running route!

“This home was the right size, the right price, and in the right place. I knew it had good bones...it just needed a little love over time.”

Over the decades, Kathy has updated the exterior, expanded bedrooms, opened up the living room to make room for her beloved 1940s dining set, remodeled the kitchen and baths, and restored the original hardwood floors.

Her favorite feature? The serene enclosed porch — the perfect place to relax with a book, catch up with friends, or take in the peaceful views of nature. When she extended the primary bedroom, she made sure the porch opened right off it. Once an open-air space, it’s now enclosed with windows that fill the room with natural light and fresh air, making it bright, comfortable, and bug-free all year round.

True to her creative and resourceful spirit, Kathy even tackled a few projects herself—like building a paver-stone patio around her backyard pecan tree.

Kathy’s DIY patio wraps around her pecan tree — a peaceful backyard spot perfect for morning coffee.

Along the way, she’s learned that “there really are wrong paint colors,” that every project brings its own surprises, and that a home’s personality only deepens with time.

And in an age of digital everything, Kathy’s story is delightfully analog. When it came time to share her home, she brought out printed photographs—capturing her home’s transformation across the decades. Those timeless images perfectly reflect the spirit of both Kathy and 435 Bondstone: rooted in history, lovingly cared for, and always evolving.

Thank you, Kathy, for sharing your story and for helping keep the spirit of Old Lake Highlands alive and well on Bondstone!
