May 2021 Yard of the Month

Congratulations to Melissa Allen at 440 Kirkwood, our May 2021 Yard of the Month winner!

Melissa has lived in OLH since 2018 and describes our neighborhood as a “gem” in the city. Melissa has given her porch a complete face-lift in the past three years, and she has replaced her front landscaping. The recent winter freeze gave most of us an opportunity for a landscape “do-over,” and her do-over looks fantastic. The result is a fresh new look with an eye-catching appeal (she notes the backyard is still a work in progress). She wanted her yard to include a mix of natives and pollinators to support our local birds and insects. Her plants include Texas Sage, Lantana, Japanese Maples, Privet, Scotch Broom, Blue Plumbago, Nandina, Fringe Flower, Spiderwort, Daylily, Aucuba, Salvia, Blackfoot Daisy, Hosta, Blue Agave, and Butterfly Bush – you’ll notice it’s Monarch approved. Melissa loves OLH and appreciates its friendly and true neighborhood feel - her home certainly adds to the charm. Excellent work, Melissa!
